Indian Air Force Squadron Leader Mohana Singh has created history. In fact, she became India's first female fighter pilot to fly the indigenous light combat aircraft Tejas. She has joined the '18 Flying Bullets' squadron operated by LCA Tejas.
She became the first female fighter pilot to join a fighter squadron about 8 years ago. Mohana Singh was part of the initial trio of women fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force along with Squadron Leader Bhavana Kanth and Avani Chaturvedi. In the initial days, the three pilots flew many aircraft of the Air Force's fighter fleet.
Another achievement of Mohan Singh
Bhawana Kanth and Avani Chaturvedi are currently flying Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter jets in the western desert. Mohana Singh recently participated in the Tarang Shaka exercise in Jodhpur where she along with three vice chiefs of the armed forces including two other vice chiefs Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani and Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan flew the Tejas in the trainer version along with two fighter pilots. However, the government opened up the fighter stream for women in 2011, so now there are around 20 women fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force.
The three service chiefs flew in Tejas
Let us tell you that during the air exercise held recently in Jodhpur, the vice chiefs of the Indian Air Force, Army and Navy flew in the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LAC) Tejas. Officials said that Air Force Vice Chief Air Marshal A.P. Singh flew the lead fighter aircraft, while Army Vice Chief Lieutenant General N.S. Raja Subramani and Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan flew the two-seater aircraft. The Tejas aircraft manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a powerful aircraft for aerial combat and offensive air support missions, while it can also be used for reconnaissance and anti-ship operations.
