Assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years, at present the first phase of voting is going on in a peaceful environment. Voting is to be held on 24 seats today. At that time PM Modi has made a special appeal to the public regarding voting. Posting on X, PM Modi said that I request the people to vote in large numbers in all those constituencies and strengthen the festival of democracy. I especially appeal to the youth and first-time voters to exercise their franchise.

The fate of 219 candidates is at stake

It is worth noting that apart from BJP, PDP, National Conference and Congress, smaller parties have also fielded their candidates in Jammu and Kashmir. 219 candidates are trying their luck in the first phase. The highest number of candidates are in Pampore seat of Pulwama district, where the number of candidates is 14. A total of 279 candidates had applied for the first phase. Later 60 people withdrew their names and now 219 candidates are in the fray.

Voting on these seats

The constituencies going to polls in the first phase are Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Jainpora, Shopian, DH Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Anantnag, Shrigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangas-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Pader-Nagseni, Bhaderwah, Doda, Doda West, Ramban and Banihal.

Election on Bijbehara seat too

Among the 219 candidates in the first phase, there are 9 women and 92 independent candidates. Bijbehara seat, which has been the stronghold of the Mufti family, is also in this phase. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija is contesting elections from here for the first time. Mehbooba and her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed have been Chief Ministers.
