Srinagar, September 17 (HS). The area around Sher-e-Kashmir Park in Srinagar has been put under multi-layered security cover ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's election rally on Wednesday. This will be Modi's first rally for BJP candidates in Kashmir in view of the assembly elections.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) VK Birdi said on Tuesday that we have made multi-layered security arrangements for such events. The venue is within one kilometer from the iconic Lal Chowk Ghantaghar. Birdi said that the police have made adequate security arrangements. He said that we will regularly issue travel advisories to ensure that the event runs smoothly and people face minimum inconvenience. The IGP said that a large number of security personnel have been deployed on the roads leading to the Prime Minister's rally venue. He said that the police and paramilitary forces have intensified vehicle checking at dozens of places and special checkpoints have been set up.

Security forces have stepped up patrolling around the venue as part of an area control exercise. This will be the prime minister's third visit to the Kashmir Valley this year. He had addressed a rally at Bakshi Stadium on March 7 and participated in International Yoga Day at SKICC on June 21.
