Prime Minister Narendra Modi is celebrating his 74th birthday on Tuesday. He is in Orissa on this occasion. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has launched the Subhadra Yojana here. This scheme is a major scheme of the state government for women empowerment. Under this, it has been announced to give Rs 10,000 every year to more than 1 crore women of the state in the next five years. Prime Minister Modi launched this scheme at a grand ceremony in Bhubaneswar in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, Governor Raghubar Das, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and other ministers of the Odisha government.

Over 25 lakh women on Tuesday received the first instalment of Rs 5,000 under the Subhadra scheme, officials said. The Subhadra scheme was a key promise in the BJP's election manifesto under 'Modi's Guarantee for Odisha' that helped the party form the government on its own for the first time in June this year. According to the government, the scheme aims to provide cash assistance of Rs 50,000 to one crore women in the age group of 21 to 60 years over five years. The state government plans to spend Rs 55,000 crore on the scheme.

PM Modi has also given the green signal to railway projects. Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated railway projects worth Rs 2,800 crore and national highway projects worth Rs 1,000 crore through virtual mode.

Also released the first installment of financial assistance to about 1.3 lakh beneficiaries of 14 states under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin. 26 lakh PMAY (rural and urban) beneficiaries celebrated Griha Pravesh on the occasion. PM Modi also handed over house keys to new home owners under the central scheme. He also launched the Awas+2024 app to survey additional families for PMAYG.
