Bhopal, 06 March (HS). Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that Mahakal has a history of pride of Sanskrit from Ujjain to Chanderi. While Tansen's city is Gwalior, Baiju Bawra's city is Chanderi. No stone will be left unturned to make Chanderi a tourism center in Madhya Pradesh.
Union Minister Scindia was addressing the inauguration program of the country's first “Craft Handloom Tourism Village” at Chanderi in Ashoknagar district on Wednesday. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Scindia inaugurated the “Craft Handloom Tourism Village” developed at Shuttle Chowk in village Pranpur with the aim of skill development, providing market and making the weavers of Chanderi self-reliant.
Scindia visited “Craft Handloom Tourism Village”. He discussed with the families traditionally doing handloom work in Pranpur village. Along with taking information about the specialties of handloom, sarees and suit clothes, he congratulated the families for preserving the art for generations and wished them a bright future.

He said that due to the wonderful personality of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has created a unique identity in the world. Lord Shri Ram has been hailed but the pot of Lord Shri Krishna is yet to burst. Prime Minister Modi has made Mahalok world famous by constructing Mahakal temple. Following his inspiration, the state government will also develop all the Dev places.
The Chief Minister said that every possible effort will be made to increase the income of farmers through animal husbandry, make high level arrangements for the treatment of the poor and carry out every development work. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav announced that new excellence colleges will be opened in Nai Sarai and Shadora to provide higher level of education to the students in Chanderi.
Bhoomi pujan and inauguration of 42 development works worth more than Rs 301 crore
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav performed Bhoomi Pujan and inaugurated 42 development works worth more than Rs 301 crore in Chanderi, Mungawali and Ashoknagar. These include Bhoomi Pujan of 08 development works worth more than Rs 228 crore and inauguration of 34 development and public interest works worth more than Rs 72 crore.
In the program, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) Dharmendra Singh Lodhi said that the history of Chanderi is a history of bravery and pride. He expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Yadav for giving gifts of development to Chanderi. Vivek Shrotriya, Additional Managing Director of Tourism Board, highlighted the Craft Handloom Tourism Village project in his welcome address. Regional MP KP Yadav, other public representatives, local officials and a large number of general public were present in the programme.
An exhibition on handloom products of the state was organized by the Weavers Service Center, Indore of the Ministry of Government of India at the venue of the program. In the exhibition, the state's traditional Chanderi saree, Maheshwari saree, woven cotton stole, Sarangpur Chadar, Chakdhariya Baiga saree including natural dyed and hand block printed sarees were displayed.
On the initiative of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and Government of Madhya Pradesh have developed 'Craft Handloom Tourism Village' in Pranpur-Chanderi at a cost of Rs 7 crore 45 lakh. Its main objective is to preserve the art of local weavers and craftsmen and to provide a market for the sale of products. Tourists will be made aware of local crafts and weaving arts by developing attractive centers in the Craft Handloom Tourism Village project.
Marketing platforms are also being provided to weavers through fairs and exhibitions. Necessary facilities will be made available for online sales. Weavers will also be given training in skill development and marketing. With the aim of making Madhya Pradesh self-reliant, the state government is continuously making efforts to increase employment opportunities. The priority is to provide a market while preserving the art of weavers and craftsmen. It not only keeps our traditional arts alive but also contributes to the rural economy.
Pranpur, village of weavers and craftsmen
Pranpur village is a picturesque place at a distance of about four km in the foothills of Chanderi. The specialty of this village is that most of the families in the village (243 houses) are associated with weaving art, whose houses and working handlooms are still being used for two-three generations. Apart from this, there are more than fifty craftsmen in the village who are involved in crafts of bamboo, wood, stone, jewelery and clay. This is a center of special attraction for tourists.
Under the project, the old kutcha access road of the village has been repaired using local stones. Inside the village, tourists go in their vehicles and get down at a designated place and tour the attractive village. A parking lot has also been developed here. A cafeteria “Handloom Café” has been constructed especially for the tourists. Public facilities and adequate parking arrangements have also been made available here for men, women and disabled people.
A garden has been developed for the facilities and entertainment of tourists. In which an amphitheater has been constructed. Here cultural groups of the local community will present cultural programs for the tourists from time to time.
