Kolkata : After a long struggle with Bengal CID, CBI on Wednesday took into custody former TMC leader Shahjahan Shaikh, the mastermind of the Sandeshkhali scam. A division bench of the Calcutta High Court upheld the Chief Justice's order in the case and directed the CID to hand over Shahjahan Shaikh to the CBI.

On Tuesday, a division bench headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagananam also directed the state CID to hand over Shahjahan to the CBI, but it did not hand over Shahjahan to the central agency as the case was pending. General meeting: After this, ED approached the High Court on this day complaining of contempt of court.

CID has also handed over the documents related to this case to CBI.

Hearing the ED plea, a division bench of Justices Harish Tandon and Hiranmoy Bhattacharya upheld the order of a division bench headed by Chief Justice TS Sivaganam, directing the CID to hand over Shahjahan Shaikh to the CBI by 4:15 pm. was given. After this, CBI officials along with the central force reached CID headquarters Bhawani Bhawan. CID handed over Shahjahan to CBI after medical examination at ESI Hospital. Along with this, CID has also handed over the documents related to this case to CBI.

Supreme Court upheld the High Court order

In fact, challenging the order of the division bench of the High Court for urgent hearing of the case, the state government approached the Supreme Court on Tuesday. But the Supreme Court rejected the state's application and advised it to approach the Registrar. During the hearing on Wednesday, the bench of Supreme Court Justice Sanjeev Khanna said that the Chief Justice's bench can hear the related application. So if necessary the state should apply there.

Shahjahan Sheikh's supporters attacked ED officers

At present, the Supreme Court has upheld the order of the High Court. Let us tell you that on January 5 this year, ED officials who had gone to raid the house of former Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh in Sandeshkhali were attacked by his supporters. Three ED officers were seriously injured in this incident. The main accused Shahjahan Sheikh, who was absconding 56 days after the attack, was arrested by the police last week. After this TMC suspended Shahjahan from the party.
