Rahul in America: There was bound to be a controversy in India over the statement made by Rahul Gandhi during his US visit and that is what happened. The biggest objection to his statement was that the fight in India was over whether Sikhs can wear turbans, kadas and go to gurudwaras or not.
He said this when asked for the name of a Sikh journalist Bhalinder Singh Virmani who was present in his program. This was strongly opposed not only by BJP leaders but also by Bhalinder Singh himself and other Sikhs. This was expressed because the statement was really provocative and its purpose was to provoke people to fight for their political interests. There is no one to fear in India like Rahul Gandhi.' Can anyone else, even a Sikh, say that a Sikh is being prevented from wearing a turban, wearing a Kada or going to a Gurudwara or something like this is likely to happen.
How provocative Rahul Gandhi's statement about Sikhs is can be gauged from the fact that Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has justified his statement. In a way, Rahul has made the work of Khalistani terrorists easier. It is certain that now he will spread more propaganda against India through his statement, but it is clear from Rahul Gandhi's attitude that it does not matter to him and he is not ready to accept that Indira Gandhi was the then Prime Minister.
Rajiv Gandhi did nothing to stop the massive anti-Sikh riots that broke out in Delhi and several other cities of the country after his assassination and on the contrary said that when a big tree falls, the earth shakes.
In fact, this was the time when Sikhs were worried about their safety. Rahul does not even seem ready to consider that the work done by Indira Gandhi to elect Bhindranwale had serious consequences for the country. He is not only ignoring Indira Gandhi's historical mistakes regarding Punjab, but is also making statements that please the Khalistanis. The way Congress fielded its Punjab leaders Pratap Singh Bajwa and Charanjit Singh Channi to justify Rahul Gandhi's statement about Sikhs in America shows that the party led by Rahul wants to show that it has nothing to do with the historical mistakes of the Congress.
Perhaps that is why these two leaders were also told that the BJP and RSS were involved in Operation Bluestar. This is not only a dangerous narrative but also a misleading lie, but perhaps Rahul Gandhi does not hesitate to resort to deception to take the Congress on a different path. Not surprisingly, this is why he also said in the US that people speaking Tamil, Telugu etc. in India are told that their language, culture and food are inferior.
Rahul Gandhi also famously said in the US that China has occupied hundreds of kilometres of Indian land and Prime Minister Modi cannot deal with it. He has been repeating this for ages. It is clear that he prefers to forget that China occupied Indian land when the Congress was in power. By ignoring the ill-effects of Jawaharlal Nehru's soft policy towards China, Rahul Gandhi is highlighting that he is not concerned about the big mistake committed by Nehruji.
Rahul also said in the US that reservation will be abolished when the conditions are favorable. When this was opposed, he said that he wanted to increase the reservation to more than 50 percent. If anything becomes clear from this, it is that Rahul wants to hide the fact that how Congress has always been against reservation at the policy level. Everyone knows that when VP Singh implemented the Mandal Commission's recommendations, the Rajiv Gandhi-led Congress openly opposed it. Today Rahul Gandhi has forgotten all this and is trying to prove himself as the biggest advocate of reservation. He is abandoning the historical mistakes of the Congress as well as the old policies of the party. This is proved not only by his demand for increased reservation but also by his promise to conduct caste census. Remember how Congress repeatedly refused to conduct caste census when it was in power. Rahul Gandhi, who insisted on caste census, is not ready to tell today why Congress kept refusing to conduct caste census when it was in power. It is clear that he is trying to change the Congress and in the process, he is abandoning the practices of Nehru, Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. Does Rahul care that his efforts to give a new look to the Congress are being liked by the old guard of the party?
BJP is trying its best to corner Rahul Gandhi on the basis of Congress's historical mistakes, but he is showing that it is not affecting his health. Rahul Gandhi's attitude is that he wants to say that he has nothing to do with Nehru, Indira and Rajiv Gandhi's Congress and whatever good or bad these leaders did, he has nothing to do with it. How will Congress counter this attitude of Rahul Gandhi, only they know, but BJP should understand that it will not be successful in cornering Rahul by citing Congress's mistakes and its policies. It is clear that they will have to reconsider their strategy.
