A person connected to government sources, hiding his identity, said, soon a census will be conducted in the whole country. The government has started preparations for conducting the census which is conducted every ten years.
Some political parties of the country including Congress have demanded caste based census in the country. However, no decision has been taken yet to conduct caste based census. No decision has been taken to add a new column for caste based census in the census forms. After PM Modi came to power in 2014, BJP became the most powerful party in the country.
This will be the first census conducted during the regime. Census is conducted in India every 10 years since 1881. However, the census to be conducted from 1 April 2020 in the first phase of this decade was postponed due to Corona. Since the latest census data is not available, the government currently has to rely on the 2011 census data for allocation of public welfare schemes and subsidies.
Census and NPRE: Rs 12,000 crore spent
This time the government has spent Rs. on census and National Population Register. It is estimated that more than 12,000 crores will have to be spent. Implementation of Women's Reservation Bill will be possible after the census. The implementation of the Women's Reservation Bill passed in Parliament last year also depends on the census, so the way to implement the Women's Reservation Bill will open with the census. The Women's Reservation Bill provides for reserving one-third of the seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. It will be implemented on the basis of delimitation after the first census. Due to Corona, the work of updating the total number of houses or dwellings in the country as well as the National Population Register (NPR) has also been delayed.
Every citizen will have to answer 31 questions
This is India's first digital census after the Modi government came to power. In which every citizen will have to fill all the information sought on a specially launched portal and provide family and personal information. Every person will have to compulsorily show the Aadhaar card number and mobile number while giving their information. A questionnaire of 31 questions has been prepared by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner's Office for the census.
