Lionel Messi returned to action after a two-month injury layoff with two goals and an assist to lead Inter Miami to a 3-1 home win over Philadelphia in Major League Soccer on Saturday.
Messi's side came back into the game after falling behind by a goal. The visitors took the lead in the second minute of the match when Mikkel Uhre cut inside his marker and fired a long-range effort that hit the palm of goalkeeper Drake Callender and went into the net. Messi equalised the score with a low shot into the far corner, beating the defender with his weaker right foot. Former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star Messi gave his side a 15-metre lead after Jordi Alba's cross from the left wing.
Luis Suarez increased the lead to 3-1 with a first-time strike from the edge of the 18-yard box after a pass from Messi. The match at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale moved Inter Miami 10 points ahead of second-place Cincinnati in the MLS Iserton Conference standings. Philadelphia is currently 11th in the 15-team standings.
