Kolkata: Superstition and ignorance prevail in West Bengal as before. In the latest incident, two tribal women were beaten to death in Harisara village of Birbhum district, accusing them of being witches and sorcerers. After this, the bodies of both the women were thrown into the canal. The police have recovered the bodies of both from the canal. It is alleged that on Friday night, both the women were dragged out of the house and tied to a pole. After this, the women and men in the angry mob beat up both the tribal women badly. The police have arrested six people on the basis of initial investigation. These elements are being questioned.

The family members of the deceased allege that they are being pressured not to inform the police about the incident and not to lodge a complaint. It is worth mentioning that even in the present times, due to the prevalence of black magic and superstition in tribal areas, such incidents have happened there in the past as well. People demand that in today's scientific era, the police should try their best to curb such incidents so that it can become an example for others.
