Mumbai: The associate professor accused of sexually harassing a medical student at BYL Nair Hospital has been suspended. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken this action. The suspension has been done after a series of internal investigations. The BMC said that further action will be taken against the associate professor after the investigation is completed and the report of the investigation committee is received.
Six months ago, the accused associate professor had inappropriately touched the girl's neck and behind her ears. He claimed he was checking for swollen lymph nodes. He asked the student to remove her apron and put his hand on her shoulder. The distressed MBBS student informed her friends about it. Later, a complaint was filed against the associate professor in April. A local inquiry committee at the hospital level said in a report in August that there was truth in the student's complaint and recommended that she be transferred to the associate professor concerned and her increment be stopped for a year.
