Jind, 6 March (Hindustan Reporter). When the workers did not get food in the canteen opened for laborers and farmers in the new grain market of Julana town, the workers raised slogans outside the canteen. A canteen has been opened in the new grain market for laborers, farmers and commission agents to eat under the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission. A full meal is available in the canteen for Rs 10, but the workers allege that they were refused food.
The workers said that under the Lakhpati Didi programme, food was packed and sent from the canteen to the women of the self-help group, but they were refused food. In such a situation, the workers were forced to return empty handed. The workers got a reply in the canteen that food would arrive after 2:30 on Wednesday. After that food will be served whereas the workers rest only from 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock. Lakhpati Didi program was organized at the Block Development and Panchayat Officer office of Julana, in which women of self-help groups from all the villages of the block participated. When a contract was given to provide food to the women who had come for the program in the canteen, this decision proved costly for the workers.
Labor leader Subhash Panchal said that the negligence of the administration is costing the workers heavily. It is wrong to serve food for any program from the canteen opened for laborers and farmers. Food can be prepared for any program but denying food to laborers is condemnable. He will complain about this to higher officials. Bittu, Block Incharge of Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission, Julana, said that a canteen has been opened in the new grain market for laborers, farmers and commission agents to eat under the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission. A full meal is available in the canteen for just Rs 10. Separate arrangements for food were made for the workers. No one refused to eat. If anyone has refused then they will investigate the matter.
