Mumbai: Due to a gas leak that started from the Morivali MIDC area of Ambarnath, residents of the entire Ambarnath city experienced eye irritation, breathing problems and poor visibility throughout Thursday night. However, even on the second day, the system could not detect which gas had leaked. The system only found that the sludge had leaked from MIDC's Nicochem Chemical Company.
It is estimated that a large number of chemical drums are lying near this company. It is possible that its chemicals may have come in contact with air. However, the system is running on the horses of logic. It is said that the company works only during the day. Today, no concrete investigation could be done as to whether there was some problem in the company at night or the gas leaked by mistake.
Today local officials and leaders returned to the premises of this company.
After hours of investigation by the fire brigade, it was found that the gas had leaked from the Nikkem Chemical Company plant in MIDC. However, officials were unaware of its exact origin and cause.
Ambarnath's Nikkam company operates during the day and closes at night. Fire brigade sources said that gas leaked from oil and chemical drums kept in the company premises. However, the exact gas leak is not yet clear, so investigation is underway. The interior of the company witnessed a hazy atmosphere during the day today and smoke was also coming out from some places.
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has deployed two mobile air monitoring vans in the industrial area of Ambarnath for continuous monitoring of air quality. It was told that the air will be clean today.
Pollution Control Board officer sent the driver for investigation
The situation became serious due to gas leakage in Ambarnath on Thursday night. However, the officer of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board did not go himself for investigation but sent his driver. According to the local people, they tried to contact the officer repeatedly but the officer did not pick up the phone. Expressing anger, people said that if MIDC's chemical unit is running on the trust of such an officer, then it can pose a big danger to the local people and demanded action.
