New Delhi, September 13 (HS). The Delhi High Court has said that the issue of contamination of drinking water with dirty water and the diseases related to it due to overflowing of drains in Delhi is an important issue and it will consider it. The bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan directed the petitioner to file an application in the pending case on such a petition. The court will consider all the issues together in it.
In the petition filed by lawyer Ashok Agarwal on behalf of NGO Social Jurist, it has been said that this problem has arisen due to the lack of cleaning of main drains and subsidiary drains. There is an acute shortage of machines and workers for cleaning the drains. It was said in the petition that it is necessary to construct new drains in place of old drains. It was said in the petition that in the last one year, the Delhi government has completely failed to solve the problem of overflowing of drains. Due to overflowing of drains, dirty water gets mixed in the pipes supplying drinking water. Due to this, people are getting many waterborne diseases. In such a situation, keeping in view the wider interest of the society, it is necessary to get rid of the problem of overflowing of drains.
It was said in the petition that the petitioner had made a representation to various authorities for this. Delhi's Water Minister also responded to this, in which he said that the main reason for this problem is the financial crisis artificially created by the Finance Department of the Delhi Government. It was said in the petition that the people of Delhi are paying the price of internal differences of the departments in the form of their poor health. This is a violation of fundamental rights. In the petition, a demand was made to give directions to the Delhi Water Board to take steps to solve this problem.
