Jind, September 13 (HS). An ex-gratia amount of Rs 30 lakh will be given to the families of polling personnel/security personnel in case of their death during election duty due to violent incidents, bomb blasts or armed attacks or firing etc. District Election Officer Mohammad Imran Raza said on Friday that financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh will be given to the family members in case of death due to any other reason on duty, Rs 15 lakh in case of permanent disability of the employee due to attack by anti-social elements and Rs 7.5 lakh in case of loss of any body part or vision of the eyes.
The District Election Officer said that this ex-gratia amount given during election duty will be in addition to the compassionate amount given by the Union Home Ministry or the State Government or other employer. The time period of election duty will be considered from the date of announcement of elections to the date of declaration of results (including both days). The work will have to be started within 10 days from the date of the incident of death, disability etc. of the employee. The Chief Electoral Officer's office will have to ensure the settlement of the related matter within one month. The Election Commission of India makes a provision for payment of ex-gratia amount to the family members of polling and security personnel in case of death or serious injury during election duty. This includes all employees deployed in all types of election related duty, all security personnel working under Central Armed Police Force, State Police, Home Guard.
He said that any private person appointed for election duty like driver, cleaner etc., BEL, ECIL engineers engaged in First Level Checking (FLC), EVM commissioning, polling day and counting day duty are also included in this. It would be appropriate to consider a person on election duty as soon as he leaves home/office for election related work like training till he returns to his home/office after election related duty. If any accident occurs during this period, it will be considered an accident that occurred during election duty. Provided that there is a causal connection between the incident of death/injury and election duty.
