Hisar: Scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras need to improve their working methods: Dr. US Gautam | News India

Hisar, September 13 (HS). ICAR Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) Dr. US Gautam has said that the agriculture sector will play an important role in making India a developed nation. He said that to ensure the solution of challenges facing the agriculture sector, scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras will have to improve their working methods.

Dr. US Gautam was addressing the closing ceremony of the annual review workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi organized at Haryana Agricultural University on Friday. The program was presided over by HKV Vice Chancellor Prof. BR Kamboj. Dr. US Gautam emphasized on doing technical development, research work, extension education system in a better way according to the feedback of farmers and promoting it to solve the problems of farmers and increase agricultural production. Scientists will have to promote varieties that give more production with less water. While reviewing the Krishi Vigyan Kendras, he motivated them to do first line demonstration, demonstration of technology on farmers' field as well as monthly progress report on KVK portal. Along with this, he elaborated on various topics including recent changes in the objectives of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and PPP model.

Referring to the work done in the last 50 years since the establishment of Krishi Vikas Kendras in the year 1974, he said that keeping in view the challenges before the agriculture sector and the problems of the farmers, the scientists at Krishi Vigyan Kendras will have to work in a more efficient manner. There are a total of 731 KVKs in the country in which more than 29 lakh farmers were trained last year to promote self-employment in the agriculture sector. He stressed on making the training programmes conducted by KVKs more effective.

HAU Vice Chancellor Prof. BR Kamboj said that this is a time of challenges for the agriculture sector. Therefore, agricultural scientists should give priority to the exchange of developing technology and information. He said that farmers have unwavering faith in HKRI and Agricultural Development Centers. He called for training of farmers as well as pesticide sellers to stop the indiscriminate use of pesticides. In the workshop, reports related to the work done during the last year and various activities by various KVK scientists were presented. On this occasion, Director of ICAR Attari Zone-2 Dr. JP Mishra, KVK Jodhpur scientists Dr. BL Jangid and Dr. Sunil Dhanda were specially present.
