The participation of former Amethi MP Smriti Irani in the activities of BJP in Delhi is increasing. In view of this, activities have intensified in the party unit regarding her possible role in the politics of the national capital before the assembly elections. The former Union Minister, born and brought up in Delhi, is seen actively participating in the programs related to the party's membership campaign in Delhi. He said that 7 out of 14 district units of Delhi have been given the responsibility of monitoring the membership campaign.

Party insiders also claimed that Smriti Irani has bought a house in south Delhi indicating her increased involvement in party activities in the national capital. A senior BJP leader said the development comes at a time when a section of party leaders are pushing for a face that can give a tough fight to CM Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP in the Delhi Assembly elections.

The BJP also fought the 2020 assembly elections without declaring a CM candidate. He said the party managed to win eight of the 70 seats while the AAP won the rest. Another top leader of the BJP's Delhi unit said if the idea of fighting the elections with a chief ministerial candidate gains momentum in the coming weeks, questions will naturally arise about the right leader for the responsibility.
