A lower court in Delhi has acquitted 10 accused in the case of riots that took place in North East Delhi four years ago in February 2020. The court said in its verdict that the case has not been proved beyond doubt against all the accused in the case, hence they have been acquitted.
The Karkardooma Court in its judgment acquitted the accused and said that the statements and evidence of the 3 prosecution witnesses cannot be trusted. All the allegations levelled against all the accused in this case could not be proved beyond doubt. The court acquitted the accused giving them the benefit of doubt.
Delhi riots accused acquitted
After a lengthy hearing, the Karkardooma Court acquitted Mohammad Shahnawaz alias Shanu, Mohammad Shoaib alias Chutwa, Shahrukh, Rashid alias Raja, Azad, Ashraf Ali, Parvez, Mohammad Faisal, Rashid alias Monu and Mohammad Tahir in the Delhi riots case.
In early 2020, an FIR was registered at the Dayalpur police station in connection with the mob attack on a mosque and some women sitting on a dharna during the riots in northeast Delhi between February 23 and 25. The case was registered on Monday after 4 and a half years, following an order passed by the Karkardooma court on August 31 last month.
More than 50 people lost their lives in the Delhi riots
Apart from these riots, Delhi Police has also imposed sections related to destruction of places of worship and arson. Three names have also come to light in this case. The case is related to the demonstration at Brijpuri Pulia against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). More than 50 people lost their lives in the riots that took place between 23 February and 25 February in the year 2024, while a large number of people were injured. So far 760 cases have been registered in this case.
