Seven people have died after the wall of a 400-year-old fort collapsed due to heavy rains in Datia city of Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place at 4 am in Khalkapura area.
Due to the wall collapse, 9 people living in the house next to the fort got buried under the debris of the wall. 7 out of 9 people have died. This fort is also known as Rajgarh.
According to the collector, the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) personnel carried out the rescue operation for six hours. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
At the same time, the Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh for the next three days. Due to the depression formed in Madhya Pradesh, heavy rains are expected in both these states.
The Meteorological Department further said that the southwest monsoon will start departing from various parts of the country between September 19 and 25.
Usually the southwest monsoon reaches Kerala on June 1. By July 8, this monsoon covers the whole country. The Cheomasa departure starts from September 17 and lasts till October 15.
