Delhiites will get a 50 percent discount on the challan amount on paying the fine related to traffic rule violations. However, this proposal is yet to get approval from the LG.
According to a report, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot said that the Kejriwal government has decided to collect 50 percent of the traffic challan amount in the capital. For this, half the amount will be charged under some sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. According to the Delhi government's proposal, the challan of the violator of the existing traffic rules is paid within 90 days. If you pay the fine of the new challan issued after the implementation of the law within 30 days, you will get a discount of 50 percent.
Talking about this proposal of the Kejriwal government, its purpose is to encourage people to pay traffic fines. This can avoid long legal disputes. This proposal will reduce the work of the court and the transport department. Therefore, the government has also laid down a condition. Any existing challan will be settled within 90 days of the notification or within 30 days for challans issued after the notification.
This exemption will apply to offences under specific sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. When a vehicle owner allows an unauthorised person or a disabled person to drive the vehicle. If someone drives a vehicle without a valid licence. Apart from this, if someone is caught driving dangerously. Or is found driving a vehicle despite being unfit to drive.
