New Delhi, September 11 (HS). Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur of Patiala House Court has rejected the bail plea of Neelam Azad in the Parliament security breach case. The court had reserved the decision on the bail plea on September 9 after hearing the arguments of both the sides.
During the hearing, the lawyer appearing on behalf of Neelam Azad had told the court that the accused has been falsely implicated. In this case, Delhi Police has filed a charge sheet and two supplementary charge sheets and the court has taken cognizance of it. Neelam Azad's lawyer had said that the accused in this case, Manoranjan D and Sagar Sharma, had jumped into the well of the Parliament and released smoke and Neelam Azad was outside the Parliament. Neelam Azad's lawyer had said that the smoke released in the Parliament was not harmful.
During the hearing, Delhi Police opposed the bail plea and said that this is a serious crime committed by Neelam Azad because she has worked to disrupt the sovereignty and integrity of the country. Delhi Police had said that there is strong and authentic evidence against Neelam Azad, which does not make her eligible for bail.
Delhi Police had filed a supplementary chargesheet in this case on July 15. Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet against the accused under sections 186, 353, 153, 452, 201, 34, 120B of the Indian Penal Code and sections 13, 16, 18 of the UAPA. Delhi Police had filed the first chargesheet on June 7. Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet under sections of UAPA against Manoranjan D, Lalit Jha, Amol Shinde, Mahesh Kumawat, Sagar Sharma and Neelam Azad.
Delhi Police has said in its charge sheet that the accused wanted to defame democracy by targeting the Parliament House. In the nearly one thousand page charge sheet, Delhi Police has said that the accused met each other on social media. The accused had a total of five meetings in Mysore, Gurugram and Delhi. Their first meeting took place in Mysore in February 2022. The court took cognizance of this charge sheet of Delhi Police on 3 August.
