Chandigarh, September 10 (HS). Haryana Chief Secretary Dr. T.V.S.N. Prasad today informed about the comprehensive election preparations and law and order situation in the state during a meeting called by the Election Commission to coordinate with neighboring states on the inter-state border in view of the general elections to the Haryana Assembly. During the meeting, Dr. Prasad informed that since the announcement of the elections, a total of Rs 14 crore worth of illegal liquor, narcotics, cash and valuables have been seized in the state so far. The seized items include cash worth Rs 10.45 lakh, 2.44 lakh liters of liquor, 2,079 kg of drugs worth Rs 436.55 lakh, 30.5 kg of precious metal and other valuables worth Rs 134.98 lakh.
The Chief Secretary informed that 435 flying squads and 377 static surveillance teams (SSTs) have been constituted across the state to further strengthen the law and order situation. In addition, 133 inter-state check posts have been set up at border points to prevent the movement of illegal substances, unlicensed weapons and persons with criminal tendencies. Additional 140 inter-state check posts have also been set up to prevent smuggling of liquor, drugs and other illegal items into Haryana.
Dr Prasad informed that the law and order situation in Haryana is peaceful and fully under control. Nodal officers of DSP rank have been appointed in each district to coordinate logistics and accommodation arrangements for the security forces. He informed that Haryana Police has seized 96 unlicensed arms and 113 cartridges. Besides, 176 proclaimed offenders, 129 bail jumpers and 210 warrant persons have been arrested since the announcement of elections. Dr Prasad said that no unauthorised person will be allowed to stay in Haryana 48 hours before the elections, to ensure free and fair polling process. He informed that strict vigil is being maintained on the inter-state borders with neighbouring states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Chandigarh and Punjab and 133 inter-state checkposts have been set up to ensure that no criminal elements or unauthorised material can enter Haryana.
