Ingredients for making Coconut Modak

- 1 cup rice flour
- 1 cup coconut (grated)
- 1/2 cup jaggery (grated)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- 1/2 tsp ghee
Ingredients for filling
- 1 cup coconut (grated)
- 1/2 cup jaggery (grated)
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 1/4 cup cashews and almonds (finely chopped)
How to make Coconut Modak
- – First of all, add 1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup milk in a pan.
- Now add 1/2 teaspoon ghee and boil it.
- – When it starts boiling, add 1 cup rice flour and mix it well.
- Mix the dough well, cover the pan and let the dough rise for 5-7 minutes.
- When the flour is completely cooked and the mixture thickens, take the flour off the gas.
- – Now take out this mixture in a plate and let it cool.
- Once cooled, add 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder and mix well.
- To prepare the filling for Modak, add 1/4 cup water and 1/2 cup jaggery in a pan.
- Cook until the jaggery dissolves completely.
- When the jaggery dissolves completely, add 1 cup grated coconut and mix well.
- Cook until the mixture thickens.
- When the mixture thickens, add 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder and 1 tablespoon ghee to it.
- Mix all the ingredients well.
- Finally add cashews and almonds and mix well.
- The filling is ready.
- – Now prepare to make Modak.
- When both the dough and the stuffing cool down, make modaks.
- – Take a small portion of the dough and roll it lightly with your palm and place the prepared filling in the centre.
- – Gather the edges of the modak and close it and pin it on top.
- While shaping the modaks, make sure that the modak closes properly and the filling doesn't come out.
- Repeat this process for all the modaks.
- – Then heat the steamer or cooker.
- Place a vessel in the steamer vessel and place the modaks in it.
- – Steam the modaks for 10-15 minutes.
- When the modak is cooked well, remove the steamer from the gas and let it cool.
- – When the modak cools down, decorate it on a plate.
- If you want, you can also decorate the modak with coconut pieces or silver work.
