New Delhi, September 09 (HS). Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address the first foundation day celebrations of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) in New Delhi on Tuesday and launch major initiatives for protection against cyber crime.
The Home Ministry issued a statement on Monday saying that the Home Minister will dedicate the Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC) to the nation. The CFMC has been set up at I4C in New Delhi, comprising representatives from major banks, financial intermediaries, payment aggregators, telecom service providers, IT intermediaries and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) of states and union territories. They will work together for immediate action and seamless cooperation to tackle online financial crimes. The CFMC will present an example of “cooperative federalism” in law enforcement.
Amit Shah will launch the Samanvay Platform (Joint Cyber Crime Investigation Facilitation System). A web-based module called Samanvay Platform, which will act as a one stop portal for cyber crime data collection, data sharing, crime mapping, data analysis, collaboration and coordination platform for law enforcement agencies across the country.
The Union Home Minister will inaugurate the 'Cyber Commando' program. Under this program, a special branch of trained 'Cyber Commandos' will be set up in the States and Union Territories and Central Police Organizations (CPOs) to counter the threats of the cyber security landscape in the country. The trained cyber commandos will assist the States and Union Territories and central agencies in securing the digital space.
Amit Shah will also inaugurate the Suspect Registry. Under this initiative, a suspect registry of various identifiers is being created based on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) in collaboration with banks and financial intermediaries to strengthen the fraud risk management capabilities of the financial ecosystem.
It is noteworthy that the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) was established on October 5, 2018 under the Central Sector Scheme within the Cyber and Information Security Division (CIS Division) of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Its primary objective was to establish a national level coordination centre to address all issues related to cyber crime across the country. The I4C aims to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement agencies and improve coordination among various stakeholders dealing with cyber crime. The I4C headquarters was inaugurated and dedicated to the nation in New Delhi on January 10, 2020. To give a permanent institutional shape and build on the learnings gained during the planning phase, from July 1, 2024, the I4C has been designated as an attached office under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
