Odisha: 3 siblings die of snakebite, father in critical condition | News India

Four members of a family were bitten by a snake on Sunday night in Boudh district of Odisha. Three sisters died due to snake bite, while their father is in critical condition.

Regarding the entire incident, the police said that the incident took place on Sunday night in Chariyapali village of Tikarpada Panchayat area. They said that the victims have been identified as Smritirekha Malik (age 12), Subharekhra Malik (age 9) and Surabhi Malik (age 3). Police said that her father was also bitten by the snake and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.

According to the information, Surendra Malik, a resident of Chariyapalli village, was sleeping with his family. Late night when his daughter's health started deteriorating, the whole family woke up. The girls were having difficulty breathing. Surendra saw a snake crawling nearby. He called his wife for help. All four were immediately taken to the district hospital. All three girls were declared dead in the hospital. Surendra has been referred from Boudh District Hospital to VIMSAR Medical College, Burla. Surendra's condition is also critical. Doctors say that it is possible that a krait snake may have bitten the three sisters.

Odisha government has given help of 4 lakh rupees

Let us tell you that every year about 2500 to 6 thousand people are bitten by snakes in Odisha. Out of these, 400 to 900 people die every year. At least 1011 people died due to snake bite in 2023-24. This year also 240 people have lost their lives due to snake bite. The Odisha government is giving an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the families of those who died due to snakebite.
