Belarus' Arina Sabalenka has won the US Open women's singles title. Sabalenka has won the US Open title for the first time.
This is Sabalenka's third Grand Slam title of her career. She has previously won the Australian Open title in 2023 and 2024. Apart from this, she reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2021 and 2023 and the French Open in 2023. Sabalenko's current ranking is two. In the final, Sabalenko defeated Jessica Pegula of America 7-5, 7-5 in straight sets. The men's singles final will be played between Yannick Sinner and Taylor Fritz.
Pegula once took a 3-0 lead in the second set and then extended the lead to 5-3. However, Sabalenko then made a strong comeback and won the set 7-5 in the tie-breaker. Sabalenka won both sets in tiebreakers. Sabalenka hit 40 winners and became the first woman to capture two hardcourt majors in the same season since Angelique Kerber in 2016. Arina Sabalenka lost to Coco Gauff in the final in 2023.
There were 23,000 spectators in the stadium.
About 23 thousand spectators were present on the court to watch the final match. These included legends like Noah Lyles, who won the gold medal in the 100 meter race at the Paris Olympics, NBA star Steph Curry and former Formula-1 world champion Lewis Hamilton. Most people were supporting America's Jessica Pegula. But Pegula looked helpless in front of Sabalenka's service and shots.
