Ludhiana: Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) has called for a shutdown of health services in government hospitals from Monday in protest against the government not fulfilling its demands. However, Aam Aadmi Clinics will remain open. Doctors of Aam Aadmi Clinics are not participating in the strike. This will provide relief to the patients.
PCMSA has divided the shutdown into three phases. Under this, OPD services will remain closed in all districts from 8 am to 11 am for three days from 9 to 12 September. No elective surgery will be performed during this period.
Apart from this, there will be no medical tests for driving license, arms license, general and recruitment apart from UDID, VVIP. Duty, inquiry, meeting, dope test services will remain suspended. However, emergency services will continue during the shutdown.
All work related to post mortem, medico-legal investigation, court evidence, forensic medical examination and tests and giving medicines to patients will continue at the Oat Centre. In case of emergency, pregnant women will have a caesarean section. Whereas earlier the association had announced a complete shutdown for an indefinite period.
Recently, after the assurance given by Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh to make changes regarding the strike in the meeting of the association officials with Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, the OPD will be for only three hours for the first three days along with some other health centers. It has been decided to stop the services of OPD.
This meeting will be held on September 11. If nothing happens in this meeting, then in the second phase from September 12 to 15, the association will conduct emergency, post-mortem, medico-legal, court evidence, forensic medical related investigation and tests and OPD. All other health services will be covered except the centre will be closed. In the third phase, from September 16, medical-legal services and other health services will also be completely closed.
Association president Dr. Akhil Sarin said that they have been forced to go on strike because the government has not taken any steps regarding the demands of the doctors. They are not demanding anything more from the government. This time their agitation will end only after their demands are met.
On the other hand, Dr. Talwinder Pal Singh, President of Aam Aadmi Clinic Medical Officer Association Punjab, said that PCMSA has no information about its closure. Aam Aadmi Clinic services will remain operational as before.
