Imphal, September 07 (HS). Kuki militants have fired long-range rockets at two populated areas in Manipur's Bishnupur district. One person died and six were injured in the rocket attack. All of them are civilians.
Manipur IGP (Intelligence) K Kabib told a press conference on Saturday that Kuki militants launched two long-range rockets in a populated area of Bishnupur district yesterday. Rocket shells were fired at night. RK Rabei (78) died in this incident. Apart from this, six other civilians were injured.
He said that after receiving information about the incident, armed police teams and additional security forces rushed to the hilly area of the district. Military helicopters have been deployed to patrol the airspace.
He said security forces conducted a search operation and destroyed a total of three bunkers, two in Mualsang village and one in Laika Mualsau village of Churachandpur. When the Superintendent of Police of Bishnupur reached the area with a team, the suspected Kuki militants opened fire on them. However, as soon as the police team retaliated, the militants fled and hid.
