UPPCL Rules: New order of electricity department, old meters will be demolished and auctioned | News India

UPPCL: The game of electricity theft by using old sold meters will now stop. Kesco will break the old faulty meters and auction them. For this, Kesco officials are going to buy a shedding machine with a budget of Rs 10 lakh. The electricity meters will break into pieces as soon as they enter the machine. Kesco has taken this step to stop the misuse of meters.

Kesco will break down and auction old and removed electricity meters. Thousands of faulty meters are collected in Kesco every year. Earlier these meters were broken down and auctioned as junk, but after a case of misuse of old meters came to light two years ago, it has been decided to break them and sell them as junk. Kesco officials said that for the first time in the state, Kesco is going to buy shedding machines as a pilot project.

Meters were seized from a junk dealer two years ago

On April 8, 2022, 150 old meters were found in a junk shop in Dayanand Vihar. Investigation revealed that the meters that were removed after installing smart prepaid meters in the areas of Circle One were sold to a junk dealer. An FIR was lodged against junk dealer Arun Katiyar and house owner Rajni Devi at Kalyanpur police station. However, the police and KESCO officials have not been able to gather information till date as to how the meters reached the junk dealer.

Meters replaced after readings were collected

In collusion between the meter reader and Kesco employees, the meter of the consumer whose meter reading was higher was replaced. For this, an old meter was installed and the meter record installed in the consumer's house was made to disappear.
