Bikaner, September 7 (HS). Collector Namrata Vrishni visited the National Camel Research Center run by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research on Saturday. Center Director Dr. RK Sawal told her about the research work and achievements of the institute.
The District Collector discussed the number and usefulness of camels in the changing environment and learned about the efforts being made for their conservation. He said that this institution has its own special importance. It has given a new identity to Bikaner. Tourists from the country and the world visit it. In view of this, it should be made more tourism friendly.
Director Dr. Sawal said that in scientific research camel milk has been found beneficial in the management of diseases like diabetes, TB, autism etc. Along with this, research is being done for the treatment of other diseases. He said that the scientists of the center have prepared various value added products from camel milk. Their demand is continuously increasing in the market. He said that the center is promoting camel tourism development activities, so that more and more camel herders are inspired and can get employment in this business.
District Collector, keeping in view the medicinal utility of camel milk, said that the Centre should continue these activities on a continuous basis so that along with conservation and development of the camel species, the social and economic status of the camel herders can be positively improved.
Collector Madam visited Camel Museum, Camel Dairy, Dairy Technology and Processing Unit, Camel Milk Parlour, Camel Sports Complex etc. and gave information about camel tourism activities being organised at NRCC and production of camel products. She milked camels in the dairy unit and tasted kulfi and lassi made from camel milk.
On this occasion, the center's chief scientist Dr. Rakesh Ranjan, scientist Dr. Shantanu Rakshit and veterinary doctor Dr. Kashinath etc. were present.
