Shimla, September 6 (HS). Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has said that the tourist village should be built somewhere else. It is ridiculous for the government to talk about opening a tourist village in Palampur Agricultural University. Now the government is eyeing the land of the Agricultural University. It would be a favor if agricultural universities are allowed to do teaching-training and research work related to agriculture. The land of the university should be named after the university.
Talking to the media in the Vidhan Sabha premises on Friday, Jai Ram said that this is not the first case. In our government too, proposals had come that there should be some commercial activity there. But we had said clearly and bluntly that this cannot happen at all. A lot of land is required for agricultural research. Therefore, the land of the Agricultural University will be used only for agricultural research work. Such tactics cannot be adopted to increase revenue. Therefore, the government should back down from the decision to use the land of the Agricultural University for commercial purposes.
Jairam Thakur said that if the government wants to build a tourism village, then it should do so, we welcome it but we cannot allow such experiments in institutions created to promote agricultural productivity. Keep in mind the contribution of agricultural universities in making India self-reliant in the field of food grains and focus on developing such institutions in such a way that they do historical research in the field of agriculture which will be a boon for humanity.
Jairam Thakur said that on the one hand the Central Government is making every possible effort to further advance research in the field of agriculture, on the other hand the State Government is discouraging research work in agricultural universities.
