Farmers Protest Chandigarh: Farmers protesting against the government in Chandigarh against the agricultural policy of Punjab will make a big announcement from their stage today. Although farmer organizations have kept their protest till September 5, but after the meeting with the honorable government yesterday, the farmers will take their new decision today.
Punjab Chief Minister tomorrow Bhagwant Mann said A meeting was held with a ten-member delegation of farmer organisations Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) and Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union. This meeting, held at Punjab Bhawan in the afternoon, lasted for about three and a half hours.
In the meeting, the Chief Minister listened carefully to the demands of the farmer and labour leaders and assured the leaders that the state government is working on a new agricultural policy. He said that the 1600-page draft of the new agricultural policy is almost ready, which will be shared with the farmer organizations by September 30.
After this, suggestions will be taken from the farmers regarding the new agricultural policy and they will be included in the policy. The Chief Minister assured the farmers and labor leaders that the state government is also considering starting a one-time settlement scheme (OTS) to provide relief to farmers struggling to repay loans from cooperative banks.
He assured the farmers that the state government will re-examine the cases of rejected compensation in cases of farm labourers' suicides. The Chief Minister directed the officials to conduct a thorough investigation to withdraw the cases registered against the leaders of the farmers' unions.
