Gippy Grewal Struggle Story: Punjabi singer and actor Gippy Grewal is a big name in the industry today. But he has worked hard to reach here. Born on 2 January 1983 in Koom Kalan village near Ludhiana in Punjab, Gippy's full name is Rupinder Singh Grewal. His father was an engineer and under family pressure, he did a hotel management course and came to Delhi in 1999. Then he started working as a waiter in a hotel.
We did odd jobs in Canada
Gippy Grewal says that my wife Ravneet has played an important role in establishing my career. Apart from this, I was doing three jobs simultaneously to make a career in music. There was not much income and there are many singers in Punjab on whom the company stopped investing. Albums became very expensive. Every artist was told that you are a genius, but the company will not invest. So this became a problem.
Also, there was no custom of carrying money from home at that time. So I thought that if I want to become something, then I will have to earn it myself. My wife supported me. My wife also did 3 jobs simultaneously. We worked very hard to support the family in Canada. I was also doing 3 jobs. In which I used to deliver newspapers to people's homes in the morning.
Then I used to work 8-9 hours in a brick factory. It was a very hard job. After that, my wife and I used to work as cleaners in the food court of a mall at night. In which garbage, clothes and utensils are also washed. While I worked in a factory during the day, my wife worked as a sandwich maker in Subway and we did the rest of the work together. At that time I was happy doing whatever I did to earn money, I was not ashamed of doing anything because my focus was only on my goal i.e. music.
Was interested in music and drama since childhood
Gippy Grewal was fond of singing and acting since childhood and due to this he used to do some shows as well. He slowly started collecting money to release an album. When he had money, he came to India and started meeting music companies. But for many years he was disappointed. Once a director asked him to shoot an album. He came to Ludhiana and shot the album. But when he went back to Delhi after the shooting, the director refused to recognize him.
First he became a singer and then an actor
Gippy first got a chance to sing in 'Chakkh Lai'. When this album became a hit, he never looked back. Only those singers who become hit in the Punjabi industry get a chance to work in films. In 2010, he got a chance to work for the first time in 'Mel Karade Rabba'.
After this, his another hit film 'Jinhe Mera Dil Luthiya' came and in 2012 he produced 'Carry On Jatta' himself. Which proved to be the biggest hit film of the Punjabi industry. After this, 'Carry On Jatta 2' came in 2018, which earned Rs 60 crore at the box office. Today he is giving one hit song after another to the film industry.
