So let us know today the history of the renovation of Ambaji temple
In 1972, Ambaji Vikas Samiti was formed under the chairmanship of the then trustee of the temple and public life activist Shri Shankarlal Guru. As per the recommendations of this committee, the renovation work of the temple was done in 1975.
A concerted effort was made to replace the entire temple and build a huge full marble temple. The temple itself was divided into three sections called the temple, mandap and shikhara and the work was done in phases. Most of the work was completed between 1975 and 1988 A.D. Work on the shikhara began in 1986 A.D. It went on till 1989.
A total of 145 Brahmins from all over India including Nepal, Kashmir were invited to perform rituals through 30 yajna kunds at the time of offering kalash to the 103 feet high shikhar of the temple. At the top of the shikhar is a kalash weighing more than 3 tons which is made of solid stone of special marble pahan quarried from Arasur, Ambaji.
One of the 51 Shakti Peethas of the country, it is believed that the heart of Shakti resides here. That is why people visit Ambaji regularly. When the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he used to visit Ambaji temple many times. The first 108 golden urns in the Ambaji temple were also installed by him. After which he requested people to donate gold to make the temple golden.
It has taken more than a decade to make the temple golden. After the appeal of the then Chief Minister and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the temple golden, many devotees are helping in making the temple golden by donating gold to the Amba temple.
