The workers of Jan Jagran Shakti Sangathan held an Azadi Rally March in the city on Thursday evening against the violence against women and transgenders including the rapes in Kolkata and Muzaffarpur. The rally started from Chandra Chowk and turned into a protest meeting at Chandni Chowk via Ashram Mohalla, Nagar Police Station.
Addressing the gathering, Tanmay of Jan Jagran Shakti Sangathan said that women are half of the population of the country. Therefore, women have equal rights as men. Therefore, they also have the right to live freely in independent India. But along with women, cases of sexual exploitation of transgenders are increasing day by day. Government statistics show that every year 31 thousand rape cases are registered in the country. Many times, the crime is neither reported nor is there a proper investigation. In only 28 percent of the cases, the culprit gets legal punishment.
On the occasion, social worker Sunil Kumar said that raising the issue of the Kolkata doctor is as important as raising the issue of hundreds of Dalit, tribal and Muslim women. Women from poor families, who are suffering every day, about whom there is no discussion anywhere. There is still a wait for justice, whether it is the Muzaffarpur incident or the case of Hathras, Unnao, Kathua, Bilkis Bano or women wrestlers. Deepak, Sulochana, Sakshi, Neha, Gomti, Tony, Bijli, Hazra, Usha, Nandini, Preeti etc. of Jan Jagran Shakti Sangathan were present in the program.
