Reserved election symbol
Many election symbols are reserved by political parties. Such symbols cannot be given to any party or independent candidate. For example, no other party or independent candidate can contest elections with the election symbol 'cycle' of Akhilesh Yadav's own Samajwadi Party. Such election symbols reserved for major parties are called 'reserved symbols'.

The election symbol of a regional party of a state cannot be given to a candidate from the same state but can be given to a candidate from another state.
