NCERT Parakh proposal on Class 12 board assessment: NCERT's unit PARAKH has submitted an important report to the Ministry of Education. In which it has been proposed to include the marks of 9th, 10th and 11th class in the final report card of class 12th.
The move is in line with the National Education Policy, which aims to set a uniform assessment process for all school boards.
Category wise weightage of marks in 12th final report
As per the test proposal, the final report card of class 12 will include the marks of class 9, 10 and 11 in the following manner. It is clear from the weightage of class marks that the marks of class 9th, 10th and 11th will also play an important role in the final marks of class 12th.
Class 9 : 15%
Class 10: 20%
Class 11: 25%
Class 12: 40%
On what basis will the students be assessed?
Class 9: 70% of the assessment will be formative, based on in-class activities, projects and group discussions and 30% of the assessment will be based on quantitative tests.
Class 10: 50% formative assessment and 50% summative assessment.
Class 11: 40% formative assessment and 60% summative assessment.
Class 12: 30% formative assessment and 70% summative assessment.
Subject wise credit system
Parakh has proposed a credit system in which students will get credit in every class and subject. A total of 40 credits will be given in class 9th and 10th and 44 credits in class 11th and 12th. Provisions will be made for subject specific credits, i.e. 12 credits for three languages, 4 credits for mathematics, 4 credits for science and 4 credits for social sciences. This system is in line with the National Credit Framework and is based on the principles of 'Academic Bank of Credit' mentioned in NEP 2020.
This response was received from the states
Some states disagree with the testing recommendations and have suggested a different approach. According to which, marks of class 9th and 10th should be added to the final marks of class 10th and marks of class 11th and 12th should be added to the final marks of class 12th. In this, marks of class 9th and 11th will be added on the basis of 40% and marks of class 10th and 12th will be added on the basis of 60%. Parakh will now discuss with the rest of the school boards in August and amend the proposal based on their feedback.
