9 thousand employees of Mumbai Municipality got only Re 1 salary

Mumbai: About nine thousand employees of the Solid Waste Department of Mumbai Municipal Corporation received salary slips on March 31. They were surprised to see that the total salary was Rs.

The Municipal Corporation employee of the Solid Waste Management Department received the list of employees from 'A' to 'T' ward. In which all of them got a salary of only one rupee.

The reason for this discrepancy was the failure to link your PAN and Aadhaar cards before March 31 as mandated by the Income Tax Department. Affected employees are now struggling for a single document to link both the cards. They are angry with the municipality that they were not given any prior information.

While cleaning the roads in F/South Ward of Parel, the Municipal Corporation employee said that I earn twenty-five thousand rupees per month. Why did the municipality not inform about linking PAN card and Aadhar card a month ago? How will we run the house for a whole month?' In this way all nine thousand employees have suffered losses.

In this regard, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Department, Sanjog Kabre said that this matter belongs to the Accounts Department. Talks were held with the Chief Accountant Treasury Office. Who is in charge of salary distribution?

Their argument is that March 31 was the last date for linking Aadhaar and PAN card. He said that everyone comes to know about this from TV and newspaper advertisements. If the card is not linked, the benefit of PAN card is stopped and 20 percent income tax is deducted from the salary. Employees have not received any money this month due to 20 percent annual deduction of TDS on salaries.

Kabare said their cards need to be linked immediately. The deadline of June 2023 given by the Finance Department was extended by almost a year.

Linking the card was personal responsibility. He said, now after linking both the cards, whether the salary of the employees will be compensated or not, it depends on the income tax rules.
