New Delhi, August 2 (HS). The Union Cabinet on Friday approved 8 important National High-Speed Road Corridor projects with a total length of 936 km and a total cost of Rs 50,655 crore.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed the journalists about the cabinet decisions at the National Media Center late Friday evening. He said that the Cabinet has approved the 6-lane Agra-Gwalior National High-Speed Corridor, 4-lane Kharagpur-Morgram National High-Speed Corridor, 6-lane Tharad-Deesa-Mehsana-Ahmedabad National High-Speed Corridor, 4-lane Ayodhya Ring Road, 4-lane section between Pathalgaon and Gumla of Raipur-Ranchi National High-Speed Corridor, 6-lane Kanpur Ring Road, 4-lane North Guwahati Bypass and widening/improvement of existing Guwahati Bypass, 8-lane elevated Nashik Phata-Khed corridor near Pune.
The minister explained the benefits of these projects. He said that travel time between Agra and Gwalior will be reduced by 50 percent. Kharagpur-Morgram corridor will transform the economy of West Bengal and the Northeast. Kanpur Ring Road will decongest the highway network around the city. Completion of Raipur Ranchi Corridor will accelerate the development of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. On the other hand, completion of the new corridor between Tharad and Ahmedabad will ensure high-speed road network for seamless port connectivity and low logistics cost in Gujarat.
