8.72 lakh saplings will be planted to increase green cover in East Champaran district

East Champaran, June 29 (HS). A big target has been given to MNREGA to increase the green cover in the district. Under this, the sides of every rural road will be made green. For this, a target has been set to plant about 8 lakh 72 thousand saplings under the Jal Jeevan Hariyali Mission from MNREGA in the financial year 2024-25.

According to the information, 34.75 percent of the plantation target set under this scheme has been completed. DM Saurabh Jorwal and DDC Sameer Saurabh have reviewed it and directed all the circle officers and MNREGA officers of the district and the concerned officers of the block to speed up this work. Along with plantation, the DM has also directed to make Ahar, canal, well and pond encroachment free.

DDC informed that 4316 units of saplings are to be planted in the district this financial year, for which a target of planting 8 lakh 71 thousand 200 saplings has been set in a total of 396 panchayats, in which 11 units i.e. 2200 saplings will be planted in each panchayat. Till now, 1500 units of saplings have been planted in MIS till 18 June.

DDC said that a target has been set to plant 60 percent saplings on private land as well. 50% subsidy will be given by the government for planting saplings on private land. Application has to be submitted along with LPC in the block office. He said that plantation will be done on priority basis in public office premises, along public water sources and along rural roads.
