A total of more than 700 personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces, National Security Guards and Assam Rifles have committed suicide in the last five years and 55,555 personnel have resigned or taken voluntary retirement during this period.
According to the information given by Nityanand Rai, Minister of State, Union Home Ministry, 144 employees committed suicide in 2020, 157 in 2021, 138 in 2022, 157 in 2023 and 134 in 2024.
In the last five years, 47891 personnel have taken voluntary retirement and 7664 personnel have resigned in CAPFs, NSG and AR.
According to Pradhan, the Central Armed Police Forces generally have eight-hour shifts. However, this can be changed depending on the requirements. Battalions are structured in such a way that personnel get rest and leave.
Measures have been taken to regulate duty hours to implement a transparent, rational and fair leave policy and to ensure adequate rest and leaves.
Pradhan further said that there are more than one lakh vacancies in Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and Assam Rifles (AR).
According to Union Home Ministry data, the total number of personnel deployed in CAPFs and ORs as of September 30 was 9,48,204. The government is taking steps to fill the vacant posts.
In the last five years, 71,231 new posts have been created in CAPFs and Assam Rifles.
