Last week, 70 small cap stocks gave returns ranging from 10 to 40 per cent. Mixed global cues, slow progress of monsoon, expectations about the upcoming Union Budget and FII investment inflows are responsible for the marginal rise in the indices. Apart from this, the IT index closed up 2 per cent while the metal index closed up 1 per cent. On the other hand, the Nifty Auto index fell 2.5 per cent, while the FMCG, Oil & Gas and Pharma indices closed down 2 per cent.
