7 people have died due to a sudden stampede in Baba Siddheshwar Nath temple in Jehanabad, Bihar. Three women are also among the dead. While 35 devotees have been injured in this accident. Due to the fourth Monday of Sawan, there was a crowd of devotees in Siddheshwar Nath temple since late Monday night. The incident happened around 1 o'clock on Monday night. It is being told that a dispute broke out between some devotees regarding darshan in the temple. Meanwhile, lathi charge was done to disperse them. After this, there was a sudden stampede in the temple.
Diwakar Kumar Vishwakarma, in-charge of Jehanabad city police station, said, “Due to the stampede in the temple, some people got buried, out of which 7 people died. While 35 people were injured. JDU district president Dilip Kushwaha has expressed grief over the death of pilgrims. He said, “There was information about a riot in the temple. When we reached the spot, we saw that about 7 people had died. The injured are being treated in the hospital.”
Eyewitnesses said that a huge crowd started gathering in the temple from Sunday night itself and after that there was a stampede in the early hours of Monday. At present, the police have sent all the 7 bodies for post-mortem. The police administration has reached the spot and relief and rescue work is going on.
The injured are being treated at the local Makhdoompur and Sadar hospitals. A man said that one of his female relatives died in the stampede. People present there told me that the administration had deployed National Cadet Corps soldiers for security and they showered lathis on the pilgrims. Due to which people started running and some people fell. This is completely the fault of the administration.
Another eyewitness said that there was a fight with a gardener selling flowers near the temple. After which lathicharge was done and a stampede occurred. 50 to 60 people were injured in the stampede while 7 died. According to eyewitnesses, there was no administration team on the spot. This incident happened due to the negligence of the police administration.
