A very big and sensational news is coming out from the political and administrative corridors of Tamil Nadu. The ongoing campaign against corruption by the newly appointed Chief Minister of the state C. Joseph Vijay has now taken a very aggressive form. With a resolve to root out corruption, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, seven senior officials of Chennai Municipal Corporation (GCC) have been suspended with immediate effect and a criminal FIR has been registered against them. All these officials are facing serious allegations of massive corruption and suspicious transactions by misusing their government posts. This major administrative lapse comes after the Vigilance team conducted surprise raids in two major zones of Chennai last week, which has sent shockwaves among corrupt officials across the state.
Bribery scandal exposed on Google Pay (GPay): Assistant Executive Engineer’s phone reveals all the secrets
During this entire raid and vigilance investigation, the most shocking and modern case of digital corruption came to light when the investigation team closely examined the mobile phone of an Assistant Executive Engineer. A highly placed source in the Municipal Corporation, on the condition of anonymity, said that at the time of the raid, this engineer could not provide any valid financial account of suspicious digital transactions of ₹ 2.39 lakh received on his Google Pay account. During technical investigation, it became clear that this amount was transferred directly to his digital wallet as a bribe. After this, the Anti-Corruption Bureau i.e. DVAC submitted its detailed investigation report to the Chennai Municipal Corporation Commissioner, immediately after which all these seven officers were suspended and a departmental inquiry was ordered against them.
Raids conducted in these VIP areas of North and Central Chennai: Complaints were being received for a long time
This joint covert raid of Vigilance and DVAC was conducted simultaneously in two of the busiest and VIP zones of North and Central Chennai. The action mainly covers Zone-6 (which includes Kolathur, Ayanavaram and Perambur areas) and Zone-9 (which includes posh areas like Mylapore, Thousand Lights and Nungambakkam). For a long time, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) was receiving complaints of illegal extortion and harassment by local citizens and businessmen of these areas in lieu of government work, after which the Vigilance Department had made a complete plan and laid a trap to catch these corrupt officials red-handed.
Game of bribe and fake billing in exchange of job: Now not just suspension, there will be direct permanent dismissal
This is considered to be the second biggest and strictest crackdown by the government within the Chennai Municipal Corporation in the last few days. Just a few days before this, six other officers were suspended after they were found involved in serious bribery, fake billing scam and a racket that collected huge sums of money from youth in exchange for jobs. According to senior sources in the Secretariat, Chief Minister Vijay has made it clear that if the allegations against these officers are completely proved during the departmental and judicial investigation, then the government will not leave them with just a minor punishment of suspension. Legal preparations have been completed to directly dismiss all these tainted and corrupt employees from government service forever.
Even the leader of his own party TVK was not spared: CM Vijay set an example of honesty.
This anti-corruption campaign of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is not limited only to government offices or officials, rather he has publicly given the message that he will not spare even his own people in the matter of corruption. Recently, a video of the Chief Minister openly taking bribe from a local panchayat leader of his political party ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK) had gone viral on social media. Seeing the seriousness of the matter, CM Vijay took prompt action even before a formal FIR was lodged with the police and expelled the leader from the party by expelling him from the primary membership, which has further strengthened the credibility of his zero-tolerance policy among the public.
Public will send videos directly to Vigilance: Government released official WhatsApp helpline number
The Vijay government has taken a very revolutionary step to make the general public a direct participant in this fight against corruption. An official and exclusive WhatsApp Helpline Number has been issued under the direct supervision of DVAC. Now, if any citizen of the state faces the problem of demanding bribe for getting work done in any government office, then he can directly register his complaint on this number. Through this modern platform, complainants can safely send live photos, audio recordings, videos or any digital evidence related to bribery directly to higher vigilance officials, on which strict action will be taken immediately within 24 hours.
