The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan on Monday sentenced 23 people, including an Indian businessman. According to media reports, businessman Raghavendra Pratap has been sentenced to 20 years. Apart from this, a fine of Rs 66 lakh has also been imposed on the accused. Actually, the whole matter is about the death of 68 children in Uzbekistan due to cough syrup. The court had clearly stated in its order that the dead children had drunk sherbet.

In the charge sheet, Raghavendra Pratap, director of a company selling Dok-1 Max syrup in Uzbekistan, has been made an accused. A case has been registered against him under serious sections including negligence and fraud.

According to the report, a poisonous substance called diethylene glycol has been found in cough syrup. This chemical is used in factories and is deadly. After this report, the Government of India canceled the license of cough syrup manufacturing company Marion Biotech.
