Gandhinagar, July 20 (HS). Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday reviewed the ongoing works of the first phase of Rs 377.65 crore under the total Rs 1400 crore project for strengthening irrigation facilities in the Nalkantha (Nal Sarovar coastal) area in Ahmedabad district. He also visited Source-1 Narmada Canal near Goraj village and Source-3 Narmada Canal near Hansalpur to get information about these works.
On completion of Phase-1, about 12,000 hectares of area will get the benefit of irrigation from Narmada water. It is estimated that Rs 377.65 crore will be spent on this Phase-1 work. Not only this; 65 percent of the work of this project has been completed so far. The first phase will be completed by August 2025. The second phase worth Rs 1027 crore will start at the end of this year. On the occasion of this site visit of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Ahmedabad District Panchayat President Kanchanba Vaghela, Sanand MLA Kanubhai Desai and senior officials of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam were present.
Patel discussed the work done under the irrigation project in Fatewadi-Nalkantha area with Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Chairman K. Kailashnathan, Managing Director Mukesh Puri, Director Parthiv Vyas and other senior officials. During this, emphasis was laid on the quality of the work and fast progress.
It is noteworthy that this project has been started to strengthen the irrigation facility in the Narmada Canal and Fatewadi Canal Project area. This project will include 11,000 hectares of irrigation-deprived area of Nalkantha. This project will provide irrigation facility to about 35,000 hectares of land of 39 villages of Nalkantha including 14 villages of Sanand tehsil, 13 villages of Viramgam tehsil and 12 villages of Bavla tehsil.
