Indian students abroad: Every year many Indian students go abroad for higher education. But for the last few years, cases of death of Indian students are coming to light. These incidents of death have raised many questions about the safety of Indian students. Kerala MP Kodikunnil Suresh raised questions about the safety of Indian students during the monsoon session in Parliament.
633 students died in the last five years
Responding to this question, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said in the Lok Sabha on Friday that in the last 5 years, there have been 633 incidents of death of Indian students abroad due to various reasons including natural causes. After Canada, the highest number of deaths occurred in the US (108), Britain (58), Australia (57), Russia (37) and Germany (24). A student has also died in neighboring country Pakistan.
However, regarding the violent attacks on Indian students in other countries, he said that the available data shows that there has been no increase in violence against Indian students abroad in recent times.
19 students died in the violence
According to the data, a total of 19 students have died due to violence or attack. Out of these, 9 students have died in Canada which is the highest number. After this, 6 students have died in America and one each in Australia, Britain, China and Kyrgyzstan.
The Ministry of External Affairs is doing this work for the safety of Indian students
Regarding the incidents of death, the Ministry of External Affairs said that as soon as any such incident occurs, the Indian Embassy raises questions with the officials of the concerned country. So that it can be properly investigated and the culprits can be punished. Apart from this, in case of emergency or crisis, Indian embassies help Indian students stranded abroad, provide them food, accommodation, medicines and try to bring them back to India as soon as possible.
Recently many Indian students were brought to India from Bangladesh through 'Vande Bharat Mission', 'Operation Ganga' (Ukraine) and 'Operation Ajay' (Israel).
The Ministry of External Affairs also said that Indian students studying abroad at the Indian Embassy can register on the help portal to get their complaints and issues resolved in a timely manner.
