60% Indians always have a fear of getting cancer, are you also one of them? | News India

Cancer is a disease that scares most people when they hear its name. This fear is not only due to the severity of the disease but also due to the huge cost involved in its treatment and the long treatment process. A recent survey has revealed that 60% of Indians are living in fear of getting cancer.

Cancer has become one of the most feared diseases in India. A major barrier in the fight against cancer is the fear associated with the disease. A recent GOQii survey found that nearly 60% of Indians worry about the disease constantly. It is not just an emotional issue; it ultimately affects people's lifestyle, mental health and even their willingness to take medication.

How is the fear of cancer gripping India?

According to the survey, most Indians have a moderate to severe fear of cancer. This persistent, never-ending fear affects people of all ages, genders and socio-economic backgrounds. People are not only afraid of the disease, but also of the possibility of death, financial stress and lifestyle changes that come with it. About 24% of the survey participants expressed fear of dying from cancer and 33% expressed great concern about the financial stress on their family. 56% of the subjects reacted negatively to environmental factors such as pollution and radiation.

How is fear affecting mental health?

Being scared all the time can be mentally exhausting. According to the report, many people are experiencing anxiety and restlessness due to the threat of cancer. This mental stress often shows up in other aspects of life as well, such as sadness, trouble concentrating, and sleep disturbances. People who have experienced cancer or who know someone who has experienced it are also vulnerable to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Due to fear, people have difficulty leading a normal life, which affects their relationships, work output, and general mental health.

Financial fears increase cancer anxiety ,

The huge financial burden that cancer places on families is a major reason for the fear associated with this disease. Cancer treatment in India is expensive. Many families are unable to afford it. The cost of medical care, surgery, chemotherapy and prescription drugs is too much for many people. According to the survey, a major concern for 33% of the participants was that a cancer diagnosis could lead to financial devastation. The fear of not having enough money for treatment is one such fear that keeps people in a cycle of procrastination.
