6 teams still dominate the IPL playoff race… know all the equations

The race for the IPL 2024 playoffs continues. It has been more than one and a half months since the tournament started but so far only one team has been able to qualify for the playoffs. Meanwhile, only 7 matches have been played in the league stage of IPL 2024, so the playoff schedule will be decided on the basis of these 7 matches. Kolkata Knight Risers have already qualified for the playoffs while Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans are out of the IPL playoff race. In such a situation, there is tough competition among 6 teams for the remaining 3 places.

Rajasthan Royals

RR are firmly in second place and came very close to IPL 2024 playoff qualification but their team failed to qualify due to defeat in the matches played so far. RR have 16 points from 12 matches and need just one win to seal their place. If they win, they also have a good chance of finishing in the top two.

Chennai Super Kings

The win in the last match against Rajasthan Royals was a big relief for the defending champions. CSK now have 14 points from 13 matches and a win in their last game against RCB on May 18 will almost seal their spot.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

SRH team has 14 points from 12 matches and they have to play two more matches in the league stage of this tournament. In such a situation, he can leave CSK behind. If they both win. If they take on Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings, they will not only strengthen their position but will also be strong contenders for the top 2 spot.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB have won five out of five in the second half of the tournament. He now has 12 points from 13 matches and his team can also qualify for the playoffs. But they are still dependent on the results of other teams. Even if they beat CSK in their last league game, they will have to hope that not more than three teams go above 14 points which is beyond their reach. They face threats from SRH, DC and LSG. Apart from this, they will also have to hope that this team will lag behind them in net run rate also.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals' chances of qualifying have diminished after losing to RCB in Bengaluru. Apart from this, his net run rate of 0.482 is also not good for him. DC has 12 points in 13 matches. They have to beat LSG by a wide margin and hope that no more than three teams advance to 14th.

Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow is in a better position than RCB and DC for the playoffs as they have 12 points from 12 matches but their net run rate of -0.769 is likely to hurt them. LSG can still make it to the Round of 16 but will have to hope that Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad or Rajasthan Royals lose all their remaining matches.
