Mumbai: Locals pelted stones on the municipal and police team which went to remove encroachment in Powai, Mumbai. Five to six policemen were injured in this incident. The incident took place in Powai's Jai Bhimnagar area this morning.
Due to this incident, a situation like a huge fire was created in the entire area and police arrangements were made. According to the information received in this regard, a fire incident had also occurred in this slum area two months ago. Therefore, Mumbai Municipal Corporation gave eviction notice to the people living in slums here. Then action was taken, today when the encroachment 'S' ward team of the municipality went with the police, the local people blocked the road and did not let them enter.
This incident caused chaos there. Meanwhile, the slum dwellers suddenly started pelting stones on the municipal corporation employees. All of them were shocked by the sudden heavy stone pelting. At this time, the police personnel immediately came forward with protective gear and took the municipal corporation employees away from there.
The police also resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. However, five to six policemen were injured during the stone pelting. After this incident, the encroachment action was suspended at 1 pm. The injured policemen were immediately taken to a nearby clinic for first aid.
According to more information in this regard, in the year 2005, permission was given to build a temporary transit camp for workers in the Jai Bhimnagar area of Powai. However, after that a large slum came up here. Since this place belongs to the government, the municipality often issues notices. Attempts were often made to remove encroachment here. However, every time this attempt failed. Even today, when the municipality team reached to remove encroachment under police protection, the local people did not let them go inside and blocked the road and stood in the middle and protested against the action and pelted stones at the municipality and policemen.
